Sweet, sweet, sweet. Digest it

(Yes, this is almost plagiarised from one of my favourite INXS songs, Taste It!)

The secret to change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new. I think that’s digestion in essence: building the new. Except that most of the time our bodies are ‘fighting the old’ be that processed foods our bodies don’t recognise as food or chemicals and hormones that we also can’t assimilate. So our bodies ‘build’ inflammation and keep triggering similar immune responses until they can get rid of these, however long that takes!

So how do we get on with just building the new?

  • eliminate the foods that ‘cost’ more than they give

  • enhancing our digestion, something our bodies do on their own, so with initial help (& most of us do) is self perpetuating.

At least once a year do a Sugar Intervention and you’ll discover not only what works and doesn’t work for you with the foods you eat, but also reassess what habits are working and not working in your lifestyle. All stress (physical, emotional and mental) summates in your body as blood sugar and balanced blood sugar responses the way your body was intended can do more for your health than you realise, until you do! There’s so much information and so much data out there we cannot possibly ‘digest’ it all; your own data is gold.

Enhancing your body’s digestion can start as simply as intervening your sugar because you leave room for what it needs to do over what it has to do. But there’s also simple ‘tricks’ you can implement too. Most of these reply on one teensy fact - your stomach needs to be acidic to thrive. Low stomach acid is epidemic but that’s a whole other post.

Unless you’re assessing you’re guessing so the first step is to test your own stomach acid which takes about 5min.

Then, like the sugar intervention, there are levels you can take to help.

  • Lemon juice. Lemons are one of the only foods that are compatible with human digestive fluids. Drink it straight or diluted in a little water before meals

  • ACV. Apple cider vinegar is a short chain fatty acid called acetate. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory. And with so much pro-inflammation in our bodies, a lot of them have forgotten even how to receive anti- inflammation. But the good news is that some immune cells carry receptors that bind to any acetate molecules they encounter. The binding sends messages to the immune system. ACV could well be your new go-to for most symptoms

  • HCL supplementation. Probably best thru nutritional advice.

You are what you eat. You are what you eat eats. And you are what you digest. Symptom chasing can keep you very busy. Digestion and gut health holds most of our health answers.
