New year’s enthusiasm

New Year’s Day marks the beginning of a fresh journey around the sun, celebrated with enthusiasm across cultures. It’s about renewal, leaving the past behind and embracing the future.

But the countdowns to fireworks lighting up the sky to the smoke that remains inevitably fizzles out. What now?

Act enthusiastic

“Enthusiasm is the electricity of life. How do you get it? You act enthusiastic until you make it a habit”. Gordon Parks

The truth is that new years feels are exactly that - feels! Enthusiasm at new years is alchemy in action. You can see it, we all see it! And then we don’t?

Personally, any success I have ever had in my life usually occurred when I was not chasing the money but was doing things out of passion. I remember lying in the ICU having just had brain surgery and received an email saying I’d qualified for the NYC marathon the next year. Who couldn’t be enthusiastic about that! But I didn’t know how I was going to do it as I couldn’t yet walk but I knew I would; I committed, my hub joined up to and we raised money for the brain tumor foundation and voila, flag in sand worked backwards and 3hr34min marathon achieved a year to the day of my survival!

Whatever you do...do it with enthusiasm. Don't underestimate the power of enthusiasm. I built my entire business based on enthusiasm. Some is big audacious enthusiasm like a marathon, others are pockets in a day like being able to so as many chin-ups as I can just cos, but they’re there!

Enthusiasm is something to celebrate

“There is a dynamic quality about enthusiasm which nothing can resist. … And the beginning of the year is a good time, it seems to me, to set about enkindling our enthusiasm afresh. For life is a dead thing without it.” Charles Hayward

Enthusiasm isn’t something to hide; it’s something to celebrate as we do at new years! The bit that gets overwhelming is the how but if we focus on the excitement and figure it out from there we generally get there way easier! Break it up into digestible bits, the harder the better then!

So hold onto your new year’s enthusiasm! How? By acting on it! By celebrating it! Get your flags out, put them in the sand away in the future. Be scared some are impossible even. Only you know! Then work backwards and go get them. I know you can, you know, deep down, that you can too!
