Book review: Your body’s many cries for water

Dr. F. Batmanhelidj, Your Body’s Many Cries For Water sources most, if not all illnesses, from dehydration. It starts on a cellular level and develops from there. His work has led him to believe that proper hydration, adequate salt intake, moderate exercise and a good diet can prevent and/or cure just about anything. He also claims that water is a major energy source, hydroelectricity, for the brain and body.

I remember reading (also) in Drowning in 8 Glasses: 7 Myths About Water Revealed by Adrienne Hew that too much water can make you go into a coma, that there is no science behind the recommendation to drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water per day? That too much water can result in reduced intracellular hydration? That pasteurized milk, alcohol, coffee and tea can accelerate tissue water loss? That animal fats keep your skin hydrated and wrinkle-free while too much water can dry out your skin and accelerate wrinkles. Adrienne Hew has compiled these and many other interesting facts about water in this important booklet. She also provides a plan for providing the body with the water it needs in the most effective way, starting each morning with a glass of warm water containing a pinch of salt.

I really love all these ideas and that too little or too much of a good thing can have problems for the body. We’re always looking for ‘the one’ thing that will heal us once and for all, but healing is an unending process, and that’s ok. A little of everything, never one over the other, no omitting one whole group, just try each and see how you feel and go with the ones that make you feel good.
