Is it cheating?
“The term 'junk food' is an oxymoron. Junk has no real value—it is that which you want to get rid of. Food nourishes and sustains us; it is vital. If it is junk, it simply isn't food." SANDRINE PEREZ
Framing garbage foods as "reward" or something you look forward to throughout the week is a great way to set yourself up for long term failure...
Life is about living and enjoying, but why are you using food as entertainment or reward? That's a formula for long term failure or sub optimal life.
If you are still using cheat days, you are only cheating yourself and selling yourself short.
Commit. Realize that choosing the most nutrient dense foods is a celebration of abundance and is not restrictive but rather intentional.
The notion that intentional eating would lead to eating disorders is also pure bullshit. Cheat days are bullshit. They are part of the spectrum of disordered eating that plagues our culture. The food you eat is serving you or sabotaging you. Why would you choose to eat food that doesn’t make you feel great? Get rid of them.
Love feeling great more than you wanted something that made you feel miserable. Let’s advocate for food peace not always being at war with our bodies?
To me, the choices I’m making are either supporting me, or not. I can’t see the point in eating something average, in feeling my meal is ‘cheating’ or just eating for the sake of it. Three times a day we get to delve into delicious and give our body everything it could need. And enjoy it along the way! It reminds me of the Lorax, “ Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, it’s not going to get better, it’s not”. Food seems like a pretty good place to start caring a lot. I often ask clients to start with their treats - if you can make them yourself from ingredients you can actually source yourself (no weird numbers or unpronounceable items!) you’re already winning!
So, is it cheating? Cheating who? You?! Omg why? It’s a triple threat - you knew you were going to do it, you did it anyway, now you’re shaking yourself over it. Geez!
Personally I think it’s just as easy to eat well as it is to eat badly, so go choose! Making chocolate cake like Paddington anyone? (https://youtu.be/4cV26E4Ueko?feature=shared)? Yes please!
