You're supposed to be the leading lady of your own life!
“In the movies, we have leading ladies and we have the best friend. You, I can tell, are a leading lady, but for some reason you are behaving like the best friend … You're so right. You're supposed to be the leading lady of your own life, for god's sake!” The Holiday
Fitbynature is living your life on purpose - so not by accident. Your daily decisions choose your life’s style (yep, you got style!). What’s more, you get to choose that style. And what’s even more, you absolutely should choose your style, and daily, to be your best you, which, let’s face it, is what you’re here to do, right?!
Our lifestyle is the coming together of all our daily choices, habits, go-to foods, gym workouts, sleep times, breathing patterns, thoughts and stresses. And at Fitbynature, we work on unleveling those, choosing those that are a little bit better than yesterday, to slowly feel better about our life-style!
We’re always told what disease is but do we know what health is? Is it just the absence of disease or what about having all the energy you could want and then some so you can go further and challenge your potential?! There’s definitely a continuum to consider. Health is how your body is functioning, it’s how you are. It’s showing up for you every single day; it isn't built on extremes but consistency. Health is small, intentional steps each day create lasting, life-changing results.
When I first created Fitbynature, in 2004, it was as if it were always meant to be part of my journey, the culmination of every step I've ever taken so far. I think of my education steps in movement, nutrition and permaculture, psychology and life coaching. But then of my recovery steps from brain tumour and surgery and learning to walk again, running three nyc marathons. Then our steps to move countries and states within America, having my son, against the odds, perhaps my bravest steps yet. But what are those odds really? I am just me!
Then five years ago we went ‘home’ to the USA (we’d returned to Australia for a year after 8 years there) for a holiday, to Close bank accounts, sell our car and see friends. I loved this line if questioning from my son:
“Mum, are we home?”
“No, we’re in California.”
“But are we are home?”
“No, we’re in back in America. We’re seeing friends in San Francisco, we’re not going home for two weeks.”
“Yeah, but, me, you and dad we’re all here, so aren’t we home?”
I love this. It’s such a great metaphor for life and health, growing and healing, because as long as we’re altogether, we’re home. Feeling like you’re home wherever you are, and you have the tools to feel comfortable in your own skin, then the energy and the passion to be your own leading lady, that’s what it’s all about!
What’s one (or 3?) small things you can do to be a little better than yesterday? How? Listen, that’s all. You don’t have to be special or gifted or different or lucky. Find the tools that work for you and use them.
