What does a diy healthy meal in your house look like?

Your meal is a sensational journey - see it, smell it, taste it, touch it (!), hear it! Each macronutrient and each sense are need for satiety. Processed, home delivered, even eating out, defeat some of these sensations from the start then don’t you think? Though arguably reading the menus or the ingredients lists could suffice I personally feel the healthiest diy meal at home is cooked from scratch aka homemade.

My favourite diy healthy homemade meal is bowls of a jumble of leftovers and vege colours and soups with the same attention. Ever had a soup, loved every mouthful but then searched for something a little bit extra afterwards? Me every time! I personally believe soup lacks crunch! I love pho for example. And rice noodles. Which tend to form the biggest part? Apart from the broth of course, which should be of the highest quality cos not only is it so much if the meal it’s also the most readily digestible and goes to make the scaffolding aka collagen of new cells for all the good nutrients you’re eating to attach to!

Now back to the noodles. If you were to say halve them, what would you put in their place? More vege maybe - I love raw thinly julienned carrots, bean shoots, fresh coriander and Thai basil and pak choy ir other Chinese vege. Then the protein should form around 1/3 of the meal.

Then there’s always that ‘little something extra’ and I love either crispy shallots or garlic pieces. They’re bombs of super flavour and soooo satisfying. For the crunch factor I find I’m always searching for I love pork rinds or even just a crispy sliced apple!

Your body’s cephalic responses, innate and learned physiological responses to sensory signals, prepare your whole gastrointestinal tract for the optimal processing of ingested foods! I know George Costanza switched to ‘soup mode’ because he needed to focus but I think focusing to the level of soup is the key to a healthy diy meal at home! Try it with bibimbap, salad bowls, poke bowls - they’re all creative exercises to reuse leftovers, eat the rainbow, healthify your go tos and make sure each meal is a sensational journey.
